Sharing Time June 2014 Week 2

June 3, 2014 by onewillisfamily

Sharing Time June 2014 Week 2

IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (singing a song): Show the children a picture of the temple nearest where you live. Invite them to sing the first verse of “I Love to See the Temple” (CS, 95). Point out the phrase “I’m going there someday,” and ask the children to listen for why Church members go to the temple as you sing together the second verse of the song. Discuss their answers and emphasize that temple ordinances make it possible for families to be together forever.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION (drawing a picture): Give each child a piece of paper with a simple drawing of a temple on it (click here for temple drawing). Invite the children to draw their family members holding hands near the temple. Encourage them to share their pictures with their families at home.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Ideas

Idea 1:

Use a flip chart (printables provided below) to go through the words of “I love to see the temple” Help the children identify how the song teaches us families can be together forever

IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (singing a song): Show the children a picture of the temple nearest where you live. Invite them to sing the first verse of “I Love to See the Temple” (CS, 95).
Point out the phrase “I’m going there someday,” and ask the children to listen for why Church members go to the temple as you sing together the song.
Show them each line on the flipchart as you discuss that portion of the song. Talk about each portion of the song specifically the following.
  • To feel the holy spirit to listen and to pray:
    • ask them what this line tells us about the temple. (perhaps that we must be reverent so we can be close to our father in heaven)
  • I’ll covenant with my father, I”ll promise to obey:
    • Ask the children what a covenant is. (explain that a handshake represents a covenant because it is a symbol that we agree to do something)
    • Ask the children what we are promising… (to obey heavenly fathers commandments)
  • For the temple is a holy place, where we are sealed together:
    • Ask the children what being sealed together means or how we are sealed. (explain that because we are sealed through priesthood authority and this binds us together for eternity… perhaps compare sealing to a lock or the binding on a book that holds the pages together.)
  • As a child of god, I’ve learned this truth, a family is forever:
    • Ask the children what truth we’ve learned. (finish up by explaining that because we are sealed in the temple our families are forever.)

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION (drawing a picture): Give each child a piece of paper with a simple drawing of a temple on it (click here for temple drawing). Invite the children to draw their family members holding hands near the temple. Encourage them to share their pictures with their families at home.

Idea 2

Hide puzzle pieces  of a temple around the room. Have the children find the pieces. One by one have the children bring the pieces to the front and read a way the temple helps our family be eternal. (Printables below)
preparation: print off puzzle printable and write clues on the back of each piece. (clues below) Hide around the primary room. Print off coloring sheet. (also can print off the flipchart if your kids don’t “I love to see the temple)
IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE: Begin by either having the children look under their chairs for a paper or by choosing a child one at a time to look around the room and find a puzzle piece.  Have them come up to the front of the room and read what is on the back of the puzzle piece. (the following is what is on the back)
  • I go here to feel the holy spirit
  • I go here to Listen to my Heavenly Father
  • I go here to pray
  • This is the house of God
  • This is a place of love and beauty
  • I need to prepare my self while I’m young to enter here.
  • I will one day make covenants with my father here
  • This is a very holy place
  • In this place we are sealed together
  • Because we have these our families can be forever
As they bring up each puzzle piece discuss what they each mean. Once the puzzle is finished explain how each statement relates to the temple and forever families.

CTR Towel Tutorial With Poem and Printable

May 29, 2014 by onewillisfamily

I don’t know if you have seen these super cute CTR Towels for “Great to be 8”…but I think they are just darling. When my Primary President showed me the idea I knew I had to try it. I helped make a bunch for the primary and then did some for my nieces and nephews. I am not a great seamstress however these are simple and easy to make. The genius behind this idea comes from The Rachel Berry Blog.  Head on over there to check out Step by Step pictures on how to do the towel and for the pattern printable. I have added an editable poem with a CTR background that goes with poem. She also has a cute one you can download on her site.
Not only is this a cute idea for baptism but you can use the idea to put anything on it; a name or shape…
Supplies you’ll need:
White Bath Towel
Fabric of your choice
Wonder Under
Sewing Pins
Iron
Sewing Machine
CTR Pattern
Printable Poem (Find your printable poem here: Pink, Green)
How to:
Step 1: Iron the Wonder Under to the wrong side of your fabric
Step 2: Pin your CTR Pattern to your fabric and cut it out
Step 3: Peel off paper backing and iron pattern onto towel
Step 4: Stitch around entire pattern
Step 5: Print off Poem and You’re done!!!

The Printable poem turned out really cute. I’ve designed a pink one and a green one. To download an editable pdf file click on the color you would like
Pink
Green
You should be able to edit the name for each child.

UPDATE: I have also added a full editable decorations pack to go with this. Check it out here:

March Madness Logos and Bracket

March 19, 2014 by onewillisfamily

March Madness team logos

March Madness is here. If you are looking for some fun party decor or just a fun way to include your kids in making a bracket here are a couple of ideas.

March Madness Team Logos

We printed off all the logos and let our son make his picks based on the logos. We tried to include the mascots to make it fun for him. Anyway it worked really well. I just filled out the bracket online while his dad let him choose between the two teams and bring me the winning team.

If you want a copy of the logos I’ve put them in a power point presentation. We printed them of as a handout 9 to a page.

Sharing Time February Week 2: Creation Number Pictures

February 7, 2014 by onewillisfamily

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (discussing pictures): Explain that as part of Heavenly Father’s plan, we needed to leave His presence, so Heavenly Father directed Jesus Christ to create the earth for us. Display pictures of some of the creations (such as the sun, the moon, water, plants, and animals) around the room. Choose a child to get a picture and place it on the board. Discuss why that creation is important to us. Continue until all of the pictures have been placed on the board. Ask the children to listen for why these things were created as someone reads Doctrine and Covenants 59:18–19.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION (drawing pictures): Give each child a piece of paper, and invite the children to draw one of their favorite creations. Sing “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (CS, 228–29).

For this week I just did printables for each day of the creation.
You can click on the picture and right click and download or click here to download the pdf.
