2017 Planner for LDS Moms

February 9, 2017 by onewillisfamily

I was so excited this year to start planning. Instead of new years goals this year I wanted something that would keep me motivated all year long. I decided to make a planner that fit my needs and goals perfectly. I wanted something where I could have a monthly evaluation of my goals, weekly and daily. I’ve designed the planner to sit down once a month and do a monthly council/ planning, a weekly planning where we do an inventory our relationships and take time to work through problems and recognize the positive in one another, and daily planning where I actually plan to accomplish all the goals. It’s still in the perfecting stage and I want to add some yearly planning sheets (still not there yet.) Christmas lists, Birthday parties lists…ect.

What would you like to see in a planner?

Try this planner out this year for free. Simply download and send to print.  I printed mine at home. Front and back. (if you don’t have a front and back printer you may need to mess with it a little to make sure it comes out right.) I printed and laminated the cover and back and then I took it to staples to bind it.

Try it out this year by downloading it here:

Parenting Books I love

February 7, 2017 by onewillisfamily

We all wish there was a manual that comes with our babies right. Well, we have a lot of tools and research that has gone into parenting. Reading parenting books is a great way to be more deliberate with the way we act with our children. After all, we kind of create their whole world to start with. I wanted to share some of the books I’ve read that have changed the way I parent and act with my kids.

Parenting books

Raising an emotionally intelligent Child by Dr. John Gottman

This book is intense but I love it because it provides tools to help children cope with their emotions. (which are behind their actions) It taught me how to teach my child how to be emotionally intelligent.

Love and Logic

Love and logic provides an excellent toolkit to deal with the day to day misbehaviors and teaching responsibility and self motivation to our kids.

Mindful Discipline

Mindful discipline goes right along with “raising and emotionally intelligent child. It is a little easier to read though.

Peaceful parent, Happy Siblings

Ever worry about sibling rivalry. This book is helping me view my kids in a perspective that i can raise them to love each other!

FHE: Pack your 72 Hour Kit

September 10, 2016 by onewillisfamily

A great FHE that can help prepare your family for an emergency is to review and pack your 72 hour kit. Emergency preparedness can give us security and a plan in case of emergency. Imagine that having to get up and leave is an actual reality. Would your 72 hr kit be sufficient?

This FHE is inspired by this family’s awesome story here.

Start FHE With a song and prayer
we sang “I will go, I will do”

After the prayer announce to your kids that you are having an emergency practice. Everyone has 3 minutes to get everything they will need for the next three days and be in the car. After the three minutes are up tell everyone to get in the car.

If you have a 72 hr kit already, throw it in.

After this experience you can can with your family about what you learned. Do you think you are prepared? What would you need to be more prepared? Does everyone know where and what is in the 72 hour kits?

Make a list of everything you may need in your 72 hour kit. We just used this one.

Here is what we decided to get:

Awesome Backpacks that would make carrying all of this easier

Food, Drinking Water, and Cooking:

Miniature cooker; This is great if you would be traveling and not able to start a camp fire.
Water Packets, and the filtering water bottles you can get from the church’s home storage center, As well as a 5 gallon water storage that could easily be grabbed and thrown in the vehicle with the 72 hour kits.
We stopped at the local grocery store and got canned chicken, jerky, peanut butter, granola bars. applesauce, raisins, milk cartons (the sterilized ones). I tried to focus on high calorie, filling food. Getting enough for each person.

Shelter: We got a tarp and rope as well as plastic sheeting, and we already have a tent.
wool blanket or sleeping bags
Camp Stove and Fuel: this one is great as well as storing wood in your home… and don’t forget matches
Cooking pots and Utensils: small cookware. we grabbed utensils we already had.
Flashlights: This flashlight lantern is great or this solar hand crank one that also has a charger and radio attached.
AM/FM Radio: This is another combination one
Long Burning candle:
Mantle Lantern:
Light Sticks:
Second Method to start fire: Butane starter or flint and steel
Disposable plates, cups, and utensils:

Creepy Crawly Bug Party

December 15, 2015 by onewillisfamily

We had a super fun bug party for my 3 year old. We basically kept it pretty simple with a couple of cute buggy touches. He’s only three so we didn’t have any kids over but had a great party with family.

Bug Party Banner

I made up a cute buggy banner:
download here. (doesn’t include characters.)

Bug Party Gift Tags

Bug Party Gift Tags

Added these cute gift tags and printed off some pretty creepy bugs to go along with it.
you can get the editable gift tags here. Search “bug silhouettes” for great bugs to go with it. i used this one and this one.

Creepy Crawly Party Cake

The Cake was the best however. We had the best dirt cake ever with some creepy crawly bugs added on top.
The delicious dirt cake recipe was courtesy of pinterest and tasted simply divine. You can find that recipe here. I took added crushed vanilla oreos to one of the layers to shake it up and i liked how it turned out.
The bugs came from this great idea here! I ended up tracing different bugs so they aren’t exactly the same but still loved the way they turned out.

Scripture Study Journal

December 8, 2015 by onewillisfamily

I recently did a post on scripture study with your toddler. Many of the ideas listed really helped my family study the scriptures better. Recently I found another idea for my growing toddler. As he is growing out of toddler-hood and becoming more of a little boy. He needs to be challenged to keep learning the scriptures. Sometimes moving on to the actual scriptures can seem difficult or scary coming from some of the little books he was reading.
An example of a question in this book would be:
“the lord will always protect us and give us a “place of refuge.” this is a special place where we feel safe. where is a place you feel happy and safe?” (this is used for 2 Nephi 14: 5-6)
I really love how this book explains the meaning of complicated words and puts it in a language your child will understand.
Scripture Power book for kids is great for making this jump into the “real” scriptures. My boy is 3 1/2 right now so I still need to study with him but this book has questions and thoughts for each of the scriptures. The questions help one to think about and delve more into the scriptures.
Another book for your growing child is My Witness of Jesus Christ. This book is the next age up and is targeted more towards your youth.
This is written more in journal format and again is wonderfully targeted at youth. It provides a means for them to think deeper about each scripture.
For example it invites you to ponder the following when reading Jacob 7:
“in verse 5 Jacob says, “I could not be shaken” How do you think Jacob go to a place where his testimony was unshakable? How is your testimony? What can you do to strengthen it.
Honestly I believe this type of study can not only benefit our youth but adults too. These two book are great resources for studying the scriptures.
